A new way to valorize neighborhoods’ food waste
The launch of The Waste Transformers in the Middle East, is going to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability within Sharjah and Dubai's eco-friendly communities by addressing food waste challenges. The willingness to separate food waste streams is high in these communities. On a regular basis the food waste is collected door-to-door and because of to the local operations, the food waste is directly processed. Especially in warmer climates, this is essential, to eliminate odour and pests. Normally waste is trucked on dirty diesel and dumped on a landfill. Food waste is the biggest producer of the greenhouse gas methane in landfill, and in this way it allows the region to reuse the much needed nutrients, reduce greenhouse gasses to heat up our atmosphere and a new approach towards fertilizing horticulture can start, replacing the chemical fertilizers. From food waste to natural fertilizer Once the food waste is processed inside The Waste Transformer, the anaerobic bacteria turn the food waste into biogas. The nutrients in the food waste form the basis of a natural liquid fertilizer. In line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, Dubai Municipality aims to build 30 new parks over the next year. Having a good topsoil to grow vegetation is key. Using circular natural nutrients, harvested from the city’s food waste stream itself, allows the city to spread food waste awareness as an oil spill. It will allow the parks to bloom, even in a desert climate and enable residents to cool down in the shade of a tree, just by valorized food waste.Impact on Society
The implementation of The Waste Transformers' biodigesters in Sharjah and Dubai's sustainable cities has a profound impact on society. By effectively managing food waste and converting it into renewable energy, we significantly reduce the cities' reliance on fossil fuels, thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions. This transition to cleaner energy sources enhances air quality. The Waste Transformers biodigesters also create green jobs and educational opportunities, raising awareness about sustainability practices and encouraging community involvement. Residents are empowered to participate in food waste reduction and recycling efforts, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. Our Waste Transformers exemplify practical applications of circular economy principles, inspiring other communities to adopt similar sustainable solutions. About The Waste Transformers: The Waste Transformers is a Dutch cleantech pioneer, providing on-site innovative technologies to transform unavoidable food waste into sustainable energy and natural fertilizers, enabling local positive change.
