A group of 15 mayor from Latin America visited the Netherlands to learn more about Sustainable Cities. The mayors visited different initiatives that reflects the concept of Smart City. The Waste Transformers was selected by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be visited by the group. The Mayors from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Mexico were all very exited to hear more about the Waste to Energy installation. Since Latin American countries experience accelerated growth of their cities, they are looking for solutions which take into account the social and environmental effects on the population growth. The visit to The Waste Transformer installation in
Amsterdam showed the group how to convert organic waste from ten local restaurants, two theaters, a micro brewery and a number of creative industries into energy. The plug and play installation directly showed how the left-overs from the mayors lunch that afternoon were transformed into clean energy. The small scale, plug and play installations make transport of waste unnecessary. The installation process waste where it arises and producing green energy where it is consumed. In addition to that, important nutrients are filtered from the waste which can be used as a natural fertilizer. Thus achieving a circular economy on waste. The
Business in a Box program by The Waste Transformers provides local entrepreneurs with all the support and tools they need to run their own Waste Transformer as a business.
Feeding the installation.
We want to thank the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the mayors from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Mexico for their energetic visit to our installation.
