In the last week of June, The United Nations Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Zero Waste was invited to Baku in Azerbaijan. Our CEO, Lara van Druten is one of the Advisory Board Members. The Advisory Board has been constituted for a period of three years and the twelve members are to promote local and national zero-waste initiatives through raising awareness and the dissemination of best practices and success stories. During the International Forum "Green World Solidarity: Waste to Value for a Sustainable Future” Lara shared insights on global practices around the world, reducing and valorizing food waste streams. The two-day forum was being organized with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and Tamiz Shahar JSC.

The forum featured participants from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, UN representatives, and delegates from various international organizations and countries. As Azerbaijan has prioritized ‘green’ developments, during the forum important insights from the international audience were shared. During her speech in Baku, van Druten emphasized the critical importance of viewing food waste as a resource rather than a problem. She highlighted successful projects led by The Waste Transformer, showcasing how local communities can benefit economically and environmentally from on-site food waste management systems. Her insights provided a roadmap for other countries and organizations looking to adopt zero-waste practices. The world gears up for COP29, held in Baku Azerbaijan in November 2024, this conference was of great importance to bring together solutions on to reach the zero-waste targets.
