Globally, a third of all food produced is wasted, which has enormous negative consequences for the environment. The JTF IJmond was established to address regional challenges, including food waste, whilst promoting sustainability. The Waste Transformers (TWT) contributes to this with a containerized anaerobic digester, The Waste Transformer, which locally converts food waste into energy and fertilizer. In this project we will enhance our production facility with the establishment of a Smart Workplace / Energy Hub and a TWT Academy located in Ijmond. In this way, the project will strengthen the IJmond region in the areas of sustainability and technological innovation.
The project's main objectives are:
Product standardization
Increase the product standardization among our various Waste Transformer biodigesters.
Educational program
The establishment of an educational program for training and re-training technical personnel.
Add-ons
The development of plug-and-play add-ons to make the Waste Transformer biodigester more flexible.
Smart Workplace | Energy Hub Velsen
Investments in a Smart Workplace | Energy Hub Velsen to facilitate sustainability research, making the IJmond region a hub for sustainable innovation.
Global delegation visits
We regularly hold delegation visits, workshops and presentations at our facility – and beyond - in order to demonstrate the results from the project and share new insights gained.

Latest add-on developed under the JTF programme: our Grid and Generator Controler for use in regions with unreliable electricity grids.
The Grid and Generator Controller
The Grid and Generator Controller (GGC) is a small, add-on device that enables our Waste Transformers to operate safely for clients in regions with unreliable electricity grids. The GGC acts as an intelligent safety switch, that protects both CHP and generator and ensuring our clients can use their backup power sources without worry. It's a key solution that allows us to bring our systems to a wider range of global clients, helping them maintain uninterrupted operations and protect their critical infrastructure.
This innovative device works by sensing the source of electricity and then smartly determing where the is coming from the national grid or a generator. It then determines the client's energy needs and the best source for their energy at that moment. We have successfully developed and tested a prototype, and it is currently undergoing long-term validation in Sierra Leone, with the goal of rolling it out to more clients.
